Hi,
Not sure if this is right place but here goes.....
I tried to book some childrens cinema seats for the Easter holidays and they don't work out as cheap as I thought. (Perhaps this is just me being tight and ignorant)
I wanted to book for my two children (5 & 6) and myself.
I was amazed to find that the booking fees and paying by debit card made them nearly twice as expensive.
If you are local to any of the vue or odeon I would recommend taking you chance and trying for tickets at the door. Odeon were charging 75p per ticket and vue wanted £2.10 (total fees)
Just a work of warning for those on a really tight budget. I know it still works out cheaper than at other times but don't think that the three of you can go for a couple of quid. Mind you it was going to cost us £9.80 for us all to get there by bus!
Just goes to prove that it's not just the airlines like Martin was pointing out on Watchdog that are taking the michael out of card payments.

I think it's particularly galling that the card charges are per ticket rather than per transaction. There's no difference in cost incurred when taking a card payment for one ticket, or for 100 tickets, so it's irritating that you have to pay more. Plus the charges are unrealistic - they can be many tens of times the actual cost to the company.
But unless people simply stop paying by card (which won't happen) then nothing will be done *shrugs*"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
It's a charge to avoid queues and guarantee admission. If you don't want to pay 75p then feel free to queue up.
The real costs IMHO are the popcorn and soft drinks..0 -
I recently booked tickets to the kids screening at the Odeon, thinking it would be a total of £5, nope. It cost me £8! £5 for the tickets and £3 booking fee .
I was not impressed, but the kids really wanted to go, so I paid up. (The week before we chanced it and missed out, so decided not to chance it again.)
It is a bit rediculous really.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0 -

What we do is visit the cinema say the day before the showing and buy the tickets so we don't have to pay a booking fee (this is at vue).
We're off to see Yogi Bear a week on Sunday and we bought the tickets today for only £1 each.0 -

This is what I do too. If we are going to watch a £1 film on a Saturday morning (Cineworld) then I call into the cinema a few days before and buy the tickets, I also take drinks and snacks in my handbag
lol.
I refuse to pay full price for cinema tickets, it is far too expensive for a family of 5.
We also make the most of the Sky 3d Kids Cinema Club in the School Hols
