Shouldn't the answer(s) be based on the OP"s original question..why the third degree with her age she met her fella ect ect.

It sounds like helpful people (im sure nearly all on here are) going that little bit too far and digging into other peoples past and passing judgement.

Really its the OP"s problem if they can repay the loan...they have asked a simple question, maybe people should answer that and leave it up to the person asking if they want too divulge there life story.

Why do you need £3000 spending money for a week in New York? You planning to buy the Statue of Liberty?

HERE is why this country is in such a mess but thankfully banks are not playing ball with these people any more..you have gone down the road of your own choice and lying at the end of it are loan sharks,,,no one pushed you down that road but yourselves.ripping off banks has consequences as so many people are finding out to their cost... PS new York is crap if you ask me,and 3 thousand pounds is a lot of debt just to find out.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

The OP put the info out there, so people are going to comment I'm afraid. Was just thinking that perhaps the numbers didnt add up therefore suspecting un-truths but you never know with some people

Plus, I think we should be discouraging someone from getting a loan they cant repay. If more banks had cared about whether people could re-pay, we wouldnt be in such a mess now eh?

i would look at both your and your partners credit file to see where the problem is.

3k spending money on top of a holiday for a 21st birthday seems like a lot especially if you don't have the 3k in your hand and you want to get into debt for it. is it really that important? i appreciate that you want to enjoy yourself and not be restricted by a tight budget but 3k for a week in NY? if you knew me you would say im not one to talk as me and my husband spent approx 5k for our two week honeymoon to new york, but we really lived like kings and 2k of that was on 2 things (a ring and a handbag) 2k would have been plenty for our two weeks without compromising on anything , we cruised over and everything on the cruise was charged for so no restraint. thing is though we had this amazing honeymoon but we had the money ourselves to pay for it all. as much as i enjoyed it i wouldn't do it if we didn't have the money ourselves.

have a look through the site and see what ways you can save money before resorting to a loan. do you really want to be paying some fancy dinners and clothes in 5 years time? plus if you can make the savings to enjoy yourselves in july then you can make a lot of these saving for a long time. don't get into debt for a silly holiday.

I think it unlikely that you would find a good rate from a good lender, the car finance thing will have spannered that, although you should check your credit reports to see the exact position of that - it may be that the lender wrote the loan off, it may be that there's an outstanding CCJ - there is a world of diffderence between the positions. I would get very serious about saving - as they say if you can't afford to save, you can't afford to borrow :-(

This thread gave me a good laugh.

'I have a pretty good credit rating, apart from that one time I binned a car and forgot about the loan'.

This one time, my mate let me buy his iPod and pay next week. I smashed it on the pavement and told him to GTFO, why would I want a broken iPod?

I love going to New York and don't believe it is crap, but I would not spend more than 5 days there. I went for 5 days last year and I think we only spent £500 for the both of us and did not really have to skimp on anything. We didn't spend a fortune in the shops as there is no real need as in Wales we have got shops. I have heard rumours that there are shops in other parts of the UK. Seeing as everything for sale everywhere is made in China there is no point in dragging stuff half way across the world.

Instead of paying for a taxi we took the train from thhe airport to our hotel which was right outside the subway, that saved $100 for the return trip.

I probably spent most of the money drinking craft real ale at about $10-$12 a US pint- not many people will believe you when you tell them that New york is a great place for good beer if you look for it.
