yes and it said it found and fixed one or more errors on the volume and then said lots about numbers and total disc space, i have written it down if neede, but i think there must be something else going on as i was trying to find some documents on it and it just cut out again , but it restarted fine, so imagine it is on its way soon but as long as i can get stuff off it i don't mind as it is old and had daily use for a long time(even if the hdd is only 16 months old)

i would put my money on faulty memory being the problem,on an old machine like that a replacement stick off ebay for a couple of quid and you might get a couple more years out of it

ok thanks i will look at that, funny how something so small can play havoc with everything, is it best to stay the same or get more at the moment there is 2 with 256 on it

if you have two sticks take one out and see how you get on,if you get problems take that stick out and put the other one in and see if that works any better, your machine will be ok running on one stick,if you get any problems after trying this you can rule out my faulty memory theory,it is then most likely to be either a new hard drive or your out of the window plan.

    That's what normally happens.
    Move along, nothing to see.
