The disclaimer is usually "calls may be recorded" and I'm sure every instance of naughtiness like this just happens to be on those 'non-recorded' calls... coincidentally of course

Fuzzy - I've had a few lately that have said "ALL calls are recorded" so there's half a chance. If ALL calls are recorded then it's a bit iffy if they say "that day's recordings accidentally got deleted", pml.
It was only a thought anyway as surely a DPA request would be enough to worry them about being caught out in the future, certainly on the admission factor. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Ooo that's interesting. Gotta be worth a try, not that I'd expect them to hand over the evidence of their own failings. Still makes you mad doesn't it!

Been thinking about this a bit more and to be honest, if it were me then I'd kick up quite a stink about it. That would mean a very polite letter to the Chairman detailing what I'd been told and asking him if he was comfortable with his staff providing misleading advice and incorrect information.
That would be openly copied to several Directors, head of Customer Services, OFT, Banking Ombudsman, probably my local MP and a few newspapers too, pml.
I wouldn't expect any 'win' so the point would just be to stir the pot somewhat. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
