What a mess! (NDR/SHOP DIRECT)

I am in some real need a help at the moment. Basically, my partner opened 5 accounts with Shop Direct. 2 of them I used to buy goods and then paid them off and they are now settled and closed. The other 3 were under her control. She bought a lot of items and started paying them off but then she fell behind and couldn't afford it anymore.

By the time she has told me, it was too late. The accounts had already been sent to NDR debt collection. Now here are where the problems started.

Firstly, NDR failed to mention that she had 3 seperate accounts with them. She initially believed all 3 accounts had been merged into one with NDR. We later found out about a second account and then after that found out there was a third, which by then had been sent to another DCA.

I have taken all of these accounts under my control and I am trying to sort them all out but the lack of communication from Shop Direct and NDR is making it really difficult for me to figure out what is going on. They seems to be adding charges and interest left, right and centre. I can't figure out why I have paid them nearly double what she owed in the first place and I still owe them money.

I have tried to sit down and make sense of it but I can't. I have tried to ring them but they are making it very difficult for me because they won't talk to me, only my partner. They are being extrememly unhelpful.

I just need to find out what she originally owed them, how much we have paid so far and how much in charges have been added, and why. I don't think they are fair charges.

Please help. What do I need to do?

  • You could SAR (Subject Access Request) Shop Direct, it will cost you £10 but then they should send you copies of everything they hold on file about you, all statements etc etc, your Girfield will probably have to do this if the accounts are in her name.

The thing is, it's very difficult for me to pursue this. I want to reclaim these charges and make sense of what has happened because I'm the person paying them, and I feel I'm being ripped off. But because it's all in my girlfriends name and she is no good at arguing, what can I do? She would rather I just pay them what they claim she owed and have it done with.
  • Get ur gf to appoint you as a proxy to speak on her behalf. I had to do this with Clydesdale Bank when working on behalf of my sister. They asked her the security questions and her permission to add me as a proxy. (ps I won the battle)

    How old are the accounts?

I have an account with them (old Great Universal) that I have an arrangement with them. Its older than 2007, and they dont have a signed credit agreement, so can't take to court.

If they are similar accounts to mine, then they accepted my arrangement once they realised I knew what I was talking about (thanks to this site) and I told them I would pay what I could.

The accounts are quite new so this isn't an option. Anyway, I don't want to 'get out' of paying them. I know that this is a debt that my girlfriend owes and I want to pay it. I just don't want to pay their stupid unfair charges.

I have totalled up charges on 2 of the accounts and they come to over £300. This consists various £12 for letters/missed/late payments.

I have decided I am going to try to reclaim these charges though I won't hold my breath because I know how stubborn they can be.

You can do it all in writing, as long as she is happy for you to type up the letters for her. Then she doesn't have to argue or deal with them on the phone. Any SAR request is going to have to be in writing anyway.
