Advice needed urgently please

Hi all, I have used this site before when my husband was going through problems and everyone was really helpful, unfortunately I find myself in a bad situation having lost my job on Xmas Eve. Anyway to cut a long story short I am in massive debt now. I have always been a good payer with everything I had but this situation has got me beat. My main concern is losing my car. I purchased this through Santander and have always maintained regular payments up until me losing my job. Now I find that another company have purchased the debt and are now threatening me with court. The total cost of the car including interest was £3400 and I paid a deposit of £300 so balance was £3100. i paid on time 103.20 for 23 months which by my reckoning means £2373.60 has been paid which deducted from £3100 leaves £726.40 but this company are saying the outstanding balance is £1541.74. Are they legally allowed to buy this debt and what shall I do. I'm sorry about it being long winded but this is only the tip of the iceberg and I'm heading for a nervous breakdown.

Hey, Just a quick one as i'm still new here. But just wanted to say hello. Folk will be along to help and advise soon i'm sure. You've obviously managed to sort out previous problems with info here, so you can again. People will be able to help best if you're able to give more info about the whole iceberg! I've posted similar advice several times tonight. Contact NationalDebtline 0808 808 4000 - this site won't let me post a link so google them. They are a charity so you'll get genuine advice for free.

Thanks guys, this site really does make you feel like you are not alone. I need to get my head out of the sand and answer those telephone calls......not quite sure I'm ready to answer the door yet but I have made a start by contacting the CCCS.
