Getting name off mortgage! HELP PLEASE!!!!

Options
ive got my name on a mortgage with my ex husband on our old house as he ran up debt worth more than the cost of the property and i am not able to get my name off the mortgage which is now affecting my life due to the bad credit he has left!!
neither of us live in the property and it is now under reposession due to him not meeting the payments required on it!
i am debt free but due to my name being on the mortgage from when i was married this has seriously affected me applying for anything eg loan, credit card even finance on somethings!
can anyone suggest help or legal rights that i have to get my name off and out of this situation ive been left in due to him!
many thanks

As you were jointly and severally liable for the mortgage payments, you will be held jointly responsible for the repossession and any balance left owing after the property is sold.

If you have the means to pay, the lender will come after you for payment, regardless of who was "at fault."

Much earlier in the process, while the account was still up to date, you may have been able to have your ex-husband take the property and mortgage into his sole name. Sadly, that avenue is long since closed to you.

You are jointly and severally liable for the shortfall between the sale price of the property and the mortgage. You are unable to walk from the situation without taking responsibility. The matter should have been resolved earlier in a formal manner, however difficult it was to address.
