OH and I are going on Scottish Rail Preservation Society day trip to Mallaig next month. We're looking forward to it, but it will be a very long day 5.20am to 10.53 pm. Has anyone been on one of these trips and could give us any hints on what to expect?

For the best views you need to know which side of the train to sit on. Going to Mallaig sit on the left and retrurning sit on the right. This ensures you get the best views of the Glenfinnan viaduct.

All the info you need about scenery, journey etc is on this web site

Have a wonderful trip - this line is very special indeed - as is Kyle of Lochalsh if you've not been on that one yet!

Thanks. I think we get allocated seats, so will hope for the best. Really looking forward to it after seeing the pictures on this website. We've done the journey several years ago by car, but think the train will give better views.
