Bank accounts and Mortgages

Options
Hi,

Not sure if this is the best place to post!

Basically I have a number of old saving accounts and a couple of current accounts with different banks I opened in the past when the interest rates for those accounts were better. The money has been moved elsewhere with a nominal amount in there keeping the accounts open.

I want to close them as I no longer need them but some of them are with the big banks and we will be looking towards applying for our first mortgage this year or next. Obviously I won't know who will give us the best deal until we get to that but potentially it could be one of the banks I have an account with.

Is there any point in me keeping these accounts open in case this happens? i.e. do banks have a policy of not lending to people who have closed their account within a certain period of time (I am aware sometimes you can't get a credit card with a bank if you have closed a credit card with them within a certain time period).

Any thoughts appreciated!

If the accounts have been inactive with only a nominal balance left will make no difference to how your application is considered. Loyalty is not rewarded as it once was.
