very worried after letter

Hi all I have been on a payment plan with virgin for the last 6 months, as I couldnt afford to pay the £125 interest charged on £5500! They said to me that after 6 months they would review it and then hopefully put me on a plan for 5 years to get the debt paid of complelty with them. I have always made the payments they wanted me to pay with them, but I have had a letter through today saying that I need to pay in 2 weeks £750! I dont have any money of this sort to pay them and I am really worried! i rang them but they told me that I have to call back when im with my partner (joint card) and they wouldnt give me any indication or anything about what will happen. Please can somebody help me? I thought I was getting somewhere but feel like ive just taken 5 steps backwards!!

If you were on an agreed repayment plan thats now finished they may now be considering defaulting the account - is the letter headed up as a default notice? if it is then they legally have to send this out before they can register a default on your credit file.

Just keep making the payments you can afford.

  • yeah it says default notice on the letter, they told me we could review the situation which is now a lot better than before, I really hope that we can sort all of this out with them as Im really worried. Good thing is ive kept up with all the payments they have asked for

This is fairly typical with a credit card - they let you agree reduced payments for a short period, then if you cannot get your account back on track after that period they will file the default. Once filed though you do stand an increased chance of them allowing you to continue to make reduced payments and possibly freezing interest.
