Freedom of information to Credit reference company?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has ever approached a debt collection agency with a freedom of information request to establish how much they bought the debt for by the original creditor?
Whilst i don't mind repaying what i owe, i refuse to repay a different company a full balance when i know they will have bought the debt for much less than they state!!
Any help/thoughts on this??
Thanks

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 does not apply to the private sector.0

That explains that then! ha - Thank you. Is there no other way of finding out how much the debt collection company paid for the debt from the originator?
Mines in relation to a bank overdraft ( I have another thread for that) Would the SAR request cover that i.e show when it was sold and for how much?0 -
None of which I know.Is there no other way of finding out how much the debt collection company paid for the debt from the originator?
I would doubt it, because:Mines in relation to a bank overdraft ( I have another thread for that) Would the SAR request cover that i.e show when it was sold and for how much?- The data could/would be commercially sensitive
- The debt would have been sold with a number of others as a job lot.

Definitely no way of finding out.
Legally they can collect the full balance.
But if you want to pay less most DCAs are willing to accept reduced full & final settlement offers if you are in a position to make one.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks all, twas worth a try!0
