Anybody know how to resolve debt issue with three?

I owe three £88 and I let it go to default over an argument when my phone wasn't working stupid I know. However I've rang them and they say it's not their problem now and gave me the details to ring a bailiff. They sent it back to three last year and can't help me either.
I just want to pay it as it'll be the last red Mark on my credit file so I can start the long process of rebuilding it but I don't know what else I can do, any ideas??

Did they specifically say it was a bailiff you have to contact (not a debt collector)? If its a bailiff then that implies you have a CCJ for this debt, do you?

  • Sorry I thought they were the same, officially it was a debt collector office. She had no idea either.

That sounds like 3, a company whose name seems to reflect its average IQ.

You can check for a CCJ via the Registry Trust.
  • Thanks, I'll have a look.
On another note is it work the 59 quid a year pre pay credit cards for rebuilding my history? My score currently is 301 with equifax and was 271 before x mas so slowly rising :) it 'claims' to build your score but I've not heard of it till having a read on here and now I'm interested as with my current score I know I won't get any credit to build my score and I have nothing left I can pay to build it?

what do you mean by 59 quid a year, you can get them fee free through this site. Not sure if they help you rebuild credit tho.

Lor - Some prepaid cards have an inbuilt creditbuilder facility - whereby you pay £5 a month for the card as a fee and after 12months they register it on your credit file as a loan of £60 sucessfully paid off. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/bad-credit-credit-cards#prepaid

OP - it can be worth getting for some people, I suppose it depends on what else is on your credit file. Do you have any existing credit (cards, catalogues etc) that you can still use? If you do then you shouldn't need a card. Or have you tried getting a subprime credit card (such as vanquis)? Are you on the electoral roll?
Don't get too hung up on what your scores are from the credit reference agencies, instead focus on what is actually in your credit report.

What else is on your credit file other than this default?

Right if its a debt collector then its very unlikely you'll have a CCJ, I just wanted to check because if it was bailiffs then its needs tackling differently.
How old is the default? If there is no CCj then I'd suggest you go back to 3 again. You could try another phone call (to see if they can trace it being sold on to a third party) or you could write to them - do you still have an account number etc for your account?

It's worth more than you're paying Equifax to see an imaginary credit score that won't necessarily be representative of how any 'real' credit issuing company will rate you ;)

Prepaid credit cards helped me get back on the ladder - useful because they lend you a small sum to be used for paying their fees, you have actual evidence of sticking to T&Cs and paying off a debt. Without them I don't know how I would have proved suitability for further credit other than just waiting for my default to drop off.

The Credit Builder facility on the Cashplus card starts reporting green '0's to the CRAs after 3 months, good if your report is otherwise a sea of red marks and late payments :o
