How to find debts??

I posted on this board a few days ago and and had some really usual advice I put down that we owed money to Barclaycard but they haven contacted us yet we moved 3 years ago, another of the debts found us on Friday.

I thought the best way was to get all our debts work out exactly what we owe and go from there.

So how do I contact them I looked on Experian but that is still showing as our old address to we update it and hope they find it from there,or ring them up direct and see from there we have no account number etc so not sure what to do.

Any help will be great thank you

  • You could probably ring them & give your name & old address. Just explain that you have moved & don't know what your account number etc is, but have realised now that you still owe money on the account.

They should be able to find the account with an address & I'm sure they'll have to just confirm your identity with some security questions.

    Good luck

If you request a copy of your credit file at your current address then its quite likely that whoever now owns the debt (barclaycard may have sold it on) will get in touch with you, this is because they will see the link between old address and new. So if you want them to contact you then this can be a good strategy, but if you have other unpaid debts etc then you might also find that they start chasing you as well.

I really dont want to leave them we had 1 that found us after 3 years so am just waiting for the others to find us,seemed to happen when our last lot of debts came through, I want to get everything sorted and not feel like I have gone back to the start if debts come through after 5 years or so.

I will go off and update the credit file and see what happens then will go about contacting them.
