Headboards

I''ve just spent ages trawling the net for a headboard for a new bed and was surprised at how expensive they are and what a limited choice there is in the big retailers. However, I've just found Headboard Direct who have a good choice of shapes and colours and seem very reasonable. Has anyone used them?

No one actually 'needs' a headboard, they are the most uselss things ever invented, unless they have integrated drawers.

If you need something at the head of your bead just buy one of them printed or plain canvasses for abut £15.oo.

Just ask yourself 'do i need a headboard, and if so why'

I havent had one for years in any of my rooms.

  • My Daughter used this website when she bought a Habitat bed off ebay but it didn't come with the headboard. As far as I can remember there were no problems and delivery was on time. I disagree with the last post, headboards provide great support when sitting up in bed.

Been around some showhomes lately and like the idea of making one - most are fitted to the wall oversized ones only bit hardboard arent they with foam covered? Look very impressive larger ones - like them for comfort sat up in bed.

I suppose I can understand if you spend time sitting in bed.
But a few cushions/pillows could do that

Cant say I ever have sat in bed, I go to bed, I lie down and go to sleep.

I agree, I've never seen the point of them either.

I like a headboard especially when sitting up reading in bed - and I do have lots of pillows too. I'll give this company a go and report back.

I bought a piece of MDF and covered it with a bit of padding and fabric to match the bedding (buy an extra single duvet cover?). I reckon you can buy the bit of wood and fixings, the padding and fabric and a cheap staple gun for the price of a purpose made headboard. Fix to the wall behind the bed and it will look great. The bonus is that every time you change your colour scheme you recover with a new bit of matching fabric.

I needed a headboard for my superking bed (the prices are horrendous!) so my DH made one using standard pine planks, some stain/varnish and some fancy looking ironmongery. In all I think it cost maybe £50, it looks superb and is a really unique item.

Just to report back on Headboard Direct as mine has arrived. It is very good quality and solid, so I'm very pleased although I thought 'stone' would be slightly greyer than the colour it is. I've yet to see it on the bed as Asda have messed up my order (which I didn't discover until the 21 days delivery time had expired) and it's had to be reordered.
