What are they eating for breakfast? Maybe they need more protein or slow release carbs to fill them up, and they could have a smaller lunch? I have tow big hungry boys of 8 and 11, and for playpiece they have a portion of fruit, and for lunch a sandwich or sub type roll with chicken or cheese salad, another portion of fruit and if they are lucky, some sort of baked good. They drink water during the day, and this is enough for them. They are hungry when they come home, but that's fine, they have a snack of some sort before dinner. Tey are big for teir age wearing 10 and 14 year old clothed, and not because they are fat, but because they are tall, they have hollow legs too. For breakfast they have porridge, or weetabix or bran flakes and scrambled eggs or french toast or a sausage. I definitely think the protein in the morning keeps them full for longer.
I definitely agree, bake your own stuff, I make muffins and wrap them individually in cling film and freeze them, and they have reuseable sports bottles and take water to drink, which saves a fortune. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -
Am looking forward to trying all these next week! And im going to meal plan as well.
I have a huge bar of mint aero in the cupboard no one seems to want to eat so am going to try and bake some muffins with chunks of that in!
Thanks everyone
Meal planning is a good idea - I painted a blackboard on the kitchen wall, it reminds you to take stuff out of the freezer on the morning to defrost by teatime as well as taking stuff out for bait the night before. You can also add this into your monthly shop if your really organised - I am not and usually cook with what I have but always have a really well stocked storecupboard and freezer.
Other things to freeze if you find them cheap or in reduced sections is butter and cheese although grate your cheese and portion bag first as it does go crumbly once frozen.0 -

Lately I have stopped doing a big grocery shop at the supermarket and am now just buying what I need on a daily basis. So far my cupboards are not yet bare and we are surviving quite nicely. Are a lot of the items you are buying a habit? Do you just pick them up each week because you think you need them? May be worth trying the daily shop rountine for a week to see how you get on. Keep all your receipts to help you track what you are spending. It really has helped me and the bonus is that you clear out your store cupboard too
I make a kind of mini quiche from time to time as a quick lunch box filler, baked bread cups, just make them when you have the oven on for something else or you are batch baking for the freezer.
Will try those, they sound fab!0 -

Hubby has breakfast at work most days, we are up most nights with the baby so he always sleeps in a bit later and has a 15 min shower as he is shattered . im not the best mum really, I suffer with chronic insomnia so mornings are a huge struggle for me, I should maybe get up earlier and feed him! My dd has a small bowl of cereal for breaky and sometimes a bit of toast but that is very rare as she takes about 15 mins to eat her cereal  . She is a pain in the bum! Judging by what she tells me some people have in their lunch boxes ( can of coke mars bar and a pepperami) maybe she is so thin because I am too strict with healthy food
I have never eaten breakfast at the traditional time - I just don't have the stomach for it until after nine o'clock but I do have my cereal at work so at least she is getting it at the right time! I think her diet sounds fairly good really and wouldn't worry about her being too healthy - it all sounds well balanced to me? Mars bar, coke and pepperami would produce and instant high then a big downer so not good at all. As long as she has plenty of energy and skin/hair/nails in good condition she could just be naturaly very thin - I was until I turned 20 and could literally eat anything and then went pear shaped from there on:rotfl:0 -

Same here, I usually just have one tortilla wrap with ham and salad in and then two pieces of fruit.
Are you sure that she's definetly eating everything in her lunch box? It's just that I know when I was her age and my mum used to pack my lunches quite a lot of it got thrown in the bin....0 -

ye we sometimes wonder about that, she assures me she is. And from what I believe the school is quite strict at lunch times and kind of patrol what goes in the bin, if they dont eat it it goes back in the lunch box rather than than the bin. The lunch box goes on a trolley when they go in and they pick up at the end of the day so its not like she can sneak it in the bin at play time etc.
I think I may give her a wrap instead of a roll and put cheese on it as well as ham, then stop the cheese string.0 -
