  • Also mix things up a bit so you don't get bored/start slacking.

I find that if I do half an hour of uni work and maybe 15mins doing as much as I can then it makes what I'm studying clearer as my eyes have had a break from it.

I second the TV ad breaks. Also I like to set a timer for say 5/10 minutes as if 'd just had a phonecall from a friend to say they'll be coming round, it makes a world of difference as you clean all the surface things so it seems that you've done masses.

I like to have lists for daily/weekly/monthly so I can tick everything off and you can see the list is being completed and the little things you forget to do regularly get done too.

Little bursts is the way forward I think, I've saved lots of time and got lots more done this way :)

Thank you all so much for your advice! There are so many ideas that I would never have thought of! I'll be heading to the flylady thread first thing tomorrow, it sounds lovely- and will possibly give me some extra motivation. :o
cat_smith, luckily we have a massive chest freezer, I use it to put left overs in (I still haven't mastered cooking for 2 a year and a half on, so there are always plenty of leftovers!). Do you batch cook a lot of different things in one go, or just make a whole load of one particular recipe?
Arron's mummy, your idea of mixing things up is just what I need- seems perfect for a short attention span! I'll start putting that in to practice tomorrow, it sounds like a really useful way to do things.
Thank you all again, I'm feeling quite positive and I'm sure with all of your wonderful ideas I will soon have everything under control! :T

i would find a few hours in one stretch where the both of you can really get stuck in and clean up once its tidy you wont want to make a mess again and it will be so much easier for you to clean and quicker plus if you are supposed to be studying and your worrying about an untidy flat you cant be fully concentrating on your work.i agree food shop online organize cupboards fridge and freezer so you know what you have,

This is the problem at the moment! I am very easily distracted which doesn't help. If I ignore the mess I don't work particularly well because I'm distracted, and I deal with the mess then I'm not using the time on my uni work!

I'm working this evening but will be leaving my boyfriend a list of tasks... :D he is rather good when pointed in the right direction. I've also checked out the flylady thread, and will be putting that into practice this morning.

Thank you all for your advice, I'm going to have soooo much spare time when I put this all into practice! :T

Two tips that worked for me were:

Always cook double the amount if it's something that can be frozen (most things can) then freeze half the meal for another time.

Everything should have a 'home'. If you don't have a place where each thing normally lives consider whether you need to get rid of some things. Otherwise you will be forever shuffling things around to make a space for other items but the place is never tidy.
