Solar PV - group discount?

I'm one of a group of people in a small town looking to install solar PV. We were wondering whether to see if we could recruit (say) 50 - 100 householders from the town and approach companies about givng us a discount. It occurred to us that we would have done the 'sales' work, and it would be cheaper for the company to install lots in one town rather than pay for scaffolding and so on to be moved around the country.
Has anyone else tried this, or have any thoughts (positive or negative) that we should consider?
If anyone wants to recommend an installer, that would be great too.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me as it brings a very large negotiating position to your side of the table.
I know that my installer has dealt with multiple property installations within an area and treated them as a single project, so it does happen, but you'll probably need to be careful and talk to some of the larger companies as the smaller concerns might not be able to cope with the installs within a decent timescale or finance the materials without causing themselves serious cashflow problems.
Good luck

Take a look at what is going on in the Crediton area. You may find this helpful.
Go to www.sustainablecrediton.org.uk and click on the sustainable Crediton Solar Project link.
