BR and Sickness

Hi

Only got a few weeks to AD, But have been ill recently , pay NO IPA and am unemployed (on JSA) may have to go sick (understand can take 2 weeks while on JSA without a Dr's note of course any longer would require a note) however , i digress! if i had to go to dr's he has already said i should really go to hospital for tests (may involve anaesthetic, so not keen) if i continue with treatment im on he may be non too keen to give me a note however and THIS is my question!! if im not on jsa and dont provide a sick note to get sickness benefit do i have to tell the BR and will this affect Automatic Discharge

I understand the that the BR has NO POWER to make someone look for work/take work or claim benefits

I assume you mean the OR? As long as you have cooperated with the OR your discharge will go through with no hold ups.

yes sorry! I did mean the OR

Am I correct in what I have been informed though that the OR has NO power to make you work/look for work or claim benefit

the only power is regards to SURPLUS income if you do work

and would I have to inform them if I were sick

You have to inform them of any changes to your circumstances which alter your income or expenditure. If you go sick and claim ESA then your 'income' would change.

However, you still wouldn't get an IPA so it's nothing to worry about.

The single rate of ESA is £67.50 pw the same as JSA so as neither my income or expenditure would not be altered surely I would not have to inform them

My apologies, I thought the 'holding' rate of ESA was a little more than JSA.

In that case nothing will change so you are not obliged to inform the OR.
