Unilever and Procter & Gamble in price fixing fine

Interesting news on the back of the fact that some people believe supermarkets alone are profiteering at consumers expense. Though no sign that the cartel operated in the UK.

The consumer products giants Unilever and Procter & Gamble (P&G) have been fined 315m euros (£280m, $456m) for fixing washing powder prices in eight European countries.

It follows a three-year investigation by the European Commission following a tip-off by the German company, Henkel.

Unilever sells Omo and Surf, P&G makes Tide, and Henkel sells Persil in certain European countries.

The money will, presumably, help to pay our poor hard working Eurocrats who deserve every penny (or cent). They can now get to work on really important things like egg-colour standards, a 'euro-definition' of terms like 'organic', 'sustainable', 'green', or 'local produce'. I would like to see prompt action on the straightness of cucumbers and the development of a standard Euro-Paper Clip.
