ok this morning I received a letter from Barclays saying 'we can confirm your last payment was on 02/02/07'

but they haven't sent any other information proving the payment was made, I had requested a full statement showing there was a payment made on the date they claim, and gave them 28days to reply. the letter received today was within the 28days.

where do I stand? because despite several requests for a statement proving the payment was made, they still haven't provided any.

update on this, I didn't request a 'SAR' I chose not to reply, so today I have received a letter from the debt collection agency informing that Barclays have recalled my account and that their file on the matter is now closed and shall receive no further correspondence from the debt collectors.

Is this a step towards victory for me?

Hard to say for sure, but sounds like it might be?

In the end, the debt is statute barred regardless of any spurious/false claims that a debt collector may make, so it's just a question of ignoring idle threats.

If Barclays pass the account on to another collector, then it would be time to make a formal complaint about them to the OFT, FOS etc..
