in Cutting tax
Hi, i am new to here and just wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I need to claim back an overpayment of tax through my job. I only started workng in October and by week 52 of the financial year had earned just under £4000. I had claimed jobseekers allowance for about six weeks before this, but the rest of the year I had been a full time student with no income. I have paid about £600 in tax since October.
I have tried ringing the tax office number on my payslip and after following the links it says to fill out a claim online and wait 4 weeks, then speak to an adviser if you havnt had a reply. However, the HM Revenue website says to contact your tax office for a refund! Help!!

Hello and welcome.
Just write to them enclosing copies of your P45 that you will have received from the Job Centre after you signed off and also a copy of your last payslip from your employer for the tax year just ended.
If you can afford to wait a short time (until 19th May at the latest) then you could instead of the payslip send a copy of your P60 from your employer, which will be better.
HMRC will then process your refund, but don't expect them to be too quick about it.... one to two months on average. If you feel my comments are helpful then I'd love it if you 'Thanked' me!
