Jobseekers National Insurance Credits

I am nearly 60 on Income based Jobseekers, as I have a small pension, JS currently give me £3 a week soon to disappear as my pension is increasing. NI are being credited. I have over 30 years required for a full pension. Mortgage is paid so dont get Interest payments so in effect I am signing on for nothing it seems.
If I sign off Jobseekers, live on my pension and look for work myself, what effect will this have on National Insurance?. If I am not getting credits will anything be affected such as pension
Any help appreciated

When you begin another job, you would need to pay NI contributions again if you earned enough, just as you have done in the past, until you reach your state retirement age.0

At what age is NI no longer payable? I had an idea it was 60, although it may have gone up in line with pensions etc.anamenottaken wrote: »When you begin another job, you would need to pay NI contributions again if you earned enough, just as you have done in the past, until you reach your state retirement age.
But if you have enough NI credits to get a full pension then I don't think not getting the credits would have any effect. HOWEVER, I don't know what those credits give you and whether they matter at your age: you are presumably not likely to need Stat Mat Pay but I know some kinds of NI conts help you get that, and others don't.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
If you are over 60 you get automatic credits, so you don't have to sign just for them. Check the HMRC website for exemption from NI if working, but I've a feeling that's only if you are over pension age.0

I was told years ago that a chap can have upto 5 years of his working life with no NI paid and still qualify for his full state pension. For the majority of chaps, this is taken when they are 60 and out of work. (This was during the days when chaps from aged 60 upwards would not be allowed to sign on but claim Income Support instead).
It may be worth for bully306g to request a State Pension Forecast and see if he has sufficient NI contributions at present to get his full state pension when he reaches 65. If he has, it may not be worth him carrying on signing for his NI credits when the pension he already receives goes up.
You can apply for a State Pension Forecast online. Please see the link from the direct.gov website below for details

As I wrote, when in employment NI is payable up to state retirement age - it's not just about, for example, having made enough contributions to receive a full state pension (there are supposed to be other benefits!). The OP is "nearly 60" so not yet eligible for a state pension, even if female.
Age 60 was formerly the female state pension age but is increasing and obviously for males is has always been higher.0 -
sorry, I managed to miss the last few words in your post!
