Discretionary housing payment

Would I be entitled to one?

I'm in a never ending spiral, last year I was out of work and for the first 13 weeks the council paid my full rent after that though it was reduced to £281 when I pay £400. I got in work after 5 months but I was obviously in arrears.

Worked until like March and I'd just about got straight with owing people money minus a couple of hundred. I lost my job in March and because 12 months is not up since my previous claim the council will pay me the £281 housing again.

I'm so bad with my finance it's even worse this time, I've just been in hospital and practically spent all my dole money on taxis and stuff, it's !!!!ing !!!!. (Scuse my language) I hate being out of work and am so fed up. But on top of all that the knowledge of the building up of debt is horrible, I'm kind of tied into this property as well, in July I am able to leave and intend to do so but until then I'm building up debts...

It's horrible getting back into work and seemingly not getting any money because I'll be paying off the debts I've built up..

Is the discretionary housing fund for situations like this?

Any advice much appreciated, I don't get back on much but I will get to reading all replies so thank you in advance.

The problem is that it seems you are only entitled to the single room rate of the LHA but are renting something larger. If you were in this house last year are you on a fixed term rental contract still or has it changed to a periodic tenancy. You may be able to give notice earlier than July and then move into somewhere smaller and cheaper.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

It's 100% I'm tied to it until July 1st for various reasons. It's my own fault but that's the situation I'm in.
