Barclays Basic Account - debit card question

Just like to know...

Can the debit card issued with a Barclays Basic Account be used to withdraw cash at ALL cash machines - or just Barclays cash machines only?

You can withdraw cash at all Link ATM machines, just like any other bank card.

The one annoying thing about the Barclays Basic account (if you're bankrupt) is you dont get internet or telephone banking.

BUT after discharge both Internet & Telephone bits can be restored after contacting them with proof of discharge

The LTSB basic account debit cards can only be used at their own cah machines which can be inconvenient. Glad to know that doesn't apply to Barclays.

I know, I looked at their basic account, how ridiculous is that. I really can't see why it needs to be so restrictive, thankfully other banks basic accounts don't have this stupid policy.

Hello everyone!

So, I've just found this forum and since I've got some issues with my card, I'm gonna talk about it here just in case you guys know what's going on (and it will avoid a call for another bank appointment)

So, here we go: I have moved from France to the UK last year but didn't really need a UK account at the time. Now that I definitelly live here, I opened a Barclays account 2 weeks ago, with a basic/current account and a Visa debit card.
I opened this account mainly for online shopping on website that only allow UK cards (I'm paid by a French company on my French account so my UK account is just for shopping really).
But here's the problem: it doesn't work at all. Everytime want to buy what's in my shopping bag, I get the Verified by Visa" thingie, I type my password, everything's fine, but when I want to finalize the payment, nothing happens, the order hasn't gone through and my money is still on my account.
At first, I thought it was a problem with the website, but I've tried another one, and the same thing happened.

I then tried to contact Barclays, they called me, telling me that there was no problem with my card, that I had done everything properly, and that I should contact the online shop customer service. Been there, done that. So they didn't really helped me at all.
The strangest thing is that I was able to open a Paypal account with it, and I've tried to send money from my UK account to the French one, just to try, and it worked perfectly.

Anyone knows what's going on?
I was thinking that maybe the debit card needed some sort of activation but the girl at the bank didn't mention it, so I don't know I haven't bought anything in shops with it yet, or even been to the ATM, so I was thinking that maybe I should, and that's the reason why it doesn't work?

you are BR aren't you? is this why?

I have one of these cards but have not used it online yet but whilst you are Undischarged you cannot have online banking or telephone banking with barclays

I don't understand what you mean by "BR"?
But I have money on this account, and I have access to telephone and online banking, so I still don't understand why I can't buy online.

by BR I mean 'Bankrupt' seeing as you have posted this in the 'bankruptcy & living with it' thread

the only thing i can think of is MAYBE the card has not yet been registered on the verified by visa website although from your previous post it seems it has but is maybe worth checking google verified by visa
