Defaults removed - when?

Hi,

Are defaults (and late payments) on a credit file removed 6 years from when the default (or late payment) occured or are they only removed 6 years after the debt has been settled/satisfied?

For example below is a debt I am going to pay off... but if I pay it off tommorrow will the default be removed 6 years from tomorrow or will it be removed 6 years from Sept 2006?
