  • Going by the mess it leaves on my towels I'd say its worth a go!

May fade with a few washes but if your dye is going to waste anyway, why not try.

I would go for it, if they are old looking anyway, I have a seven year (actually I think it might be about ten now :o ) t-shirt that I use for dyeing my hair, and it has various colours of red blotches from my different experiments all over it, which have stayed in despite washing every time it is used, and hasn't gone holey or anything.

Hair dye will certainly dye natural fabrics like cotton and linen. However, most socks are made with a proportion of synthetic fibres which won't take up the dye so the shades you end up with might be a bit variable.

lol I had a dyeing frenzy last year where everything became purple, watch out, it is addictive. I get my dye on Ebay, much cheaper than the shops, if you are looking for fabric dyes.

Even with fabric dyes, the rate they take up the colour varies on the material. Let us know how you get on.

Can I be nosy and ask what kind of dyes? I have only used dylon or natural (ie plants or turmeric) so am interested in results.
