Owning up to debt with your partner

Been a lurker for 2 years, during which time my debt has got worse and worse. Finally today I plucked up the courage to tell my wife and she has bowled me over with how she has been.
I was ready for her to leave and take the kids with her, but how wrong was I. She has been so supportive and wants us to work together to sort it out.
I really want anyone else that has been in the situation to tell your partner ASAP. I have carried this on my shoulders for years, not sleeping properly, not eating, feeling depressed and having that constant knot in my stomach. I've lost 2 and half stone (every cloud) and I can tell you it is not worth it! The relief is unbelievable. I now know I can work to get things sorted and move on from here, i truly believe this will bring us closer.

Great post, I'm really pleased for you that your wife took it so well and good luck on working on this together from now on.
I've not been in this position as both DH and me were both aware that our debts were spiralling out of control, but there are frequent posts from people scared of the consequences of telling their loved one the truth so I hope this will help reassure them that it really can be a relief to share the burden.LBM Feb 11 - Joint Debts of around £80,000 _pale_ And nothing significant to show for it :embarasse
Actual Debt at March 11: £79,269.65
Debt as at July 11: £82,483.16  Thanks to fees & charges! :mad:0
