İ am sure there are many here who have joined the gym in a fit of 'improvement' and once the initial weeks have past the gym membership is not being used now--so come and motivate ME and anyone else who needs to get back into shape!--its spring and exercise is good for fighting the economic blues!

İ know its awful--but the weather is improving and i need to shape up or ship out early in this life!-all this stressing about money and the economy makes me transfixed by this screen!----my renewal for membership is in May and i am determind to get exercise back into my routine---i went crazy last spring and lost lots of weight but come summer my enthusiasm waned and the weight is returning at an alarming rate--i also feel so much better when i go to the gym but getting me there is difficult!!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

Yeah I am the same! I was going loads until I found out I had tennis elbow last month, initially I couldnt go... now it's just an excuse as I'm pretty sure using half the cardio equipment would be fine! I want to be skinny by the summer, and dont have long so I dont really get why I am so unmotivated when it comes to going to the gym?!?0

with me it is definately the urge to be lazy!--i enjoy it once i am there and i get quick results! todays excuse is a sore throat which like your ailment doesnt stop usage of the cardio--i can work which involves a lot of talking and moving about so why not the gym!!??
Tomorrow i have 3 hours off in the middle of the day so i am 'planning' to fet there!--most of my gym time is during the day--i have conned myself out of night time activity due to finishing late in the evening--9pm but the gym is open til midnight!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
Get your a$$es down there and keep getting them there! I KNOW it's boring, and I KNOW you have 20 better things to do, but being fit and healthy and slim and trim is worth it!
I joined at the end of January and I can come up with a different excuse not to go every day if I try. I'm paying £££s per month that I can't afford, though, so am forcing myself to the included classes and into the gym nearly every day.
ETA: I'm NOT slim and trim and fit and heathy yet, sorry, I sounded bossy there, didn't I?******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
i lasted about 3 months of enthusiasm and then the excuses become more attractive!!-in that time i became very thin and at 48 impossible to become attractive.--i had a bmi of about 22,5 but my wife told me i was too thin and it made me look older--all my effort and i got critism---at the same time as going to the gym i tend to diet quite severely but as soon as i stop going the weight comes back on.--the gym stops my need for alcohol!--it makes me feel less stressed. İ am a teacher and stress is the name of the game.mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

My best tip for continuing to use gym memberships (6 years and counting of attending at least once a week- even Christmas/New Year weeks!!) would be to keep things constantly changing.
You pay a fee for the gym and the professional gym staff in the gym. Every 6-8 weeks you really should be looking at changing your programme as your body naturally adjusts and you wont see results if you stay doing the same thing. Speak to the gym staff about finding new things to do, upping intensity, interval training, endurance training are some ideas but also don't forget classes, keep these changed also. Maybe one set of 8 weeks you could focus on dance based classes such as Zumba and step, the next 8 weeks could be classes such as spinning, circuits..etc the next 8 weeks....etc etc. The times inbetween spent in the gym working up the skills that when you go back to the classes your that bit better at it, sort of like practicing.
Make good use of the weather, not just an evening or morning jog, BMF (British Military Fitness) groups meeting up, even going out with family/walking your dog/neighbours dog/animal rescue homes dog! for the afternoon... you don't have to be inside a gym to be exercising, but it does help if your already paying for a membership to feel like your actually using it, its what originally kept me motivated, then it became a habit, then I became afraid if I'd stop I'd balloon, now I go partly because I know it makes me feel better afterwards. If you focus on that feeling, it feels alot more do-able.0 -
i did aerobics with weights last week(something i used to enjoy when i was in my 20s) but it triggered off a pre-existing 'bad' back condition and it gave me another reason not to go for another week!! it seemed a good idea at the time.
İ do not live in the uk and there are no clubs or associations. İn the summer the heat kills off any outside sport and there are no state facilities to do anything. Winter is cold but dry and apart from the private gym i belong to no one does anything 'communal'. The gym is expensive even by uk levels so it really is a luxury on teacher's pay!-it costs me 1400 quid for the 3 of us' so it really is 'imperative' to get maximum usage!!
İ promise i will go this morning!-i am 74,2kg 11st 6lbs and i want to get to 11st 3lbs and hold it there.--i enjoy targets because it helps me 'get to the gym' --when i get my renewal in May i will see the dietician again and i dont want to be insulted again!-i was 13st 1lb then! but i want to maintain regular exercise to relieve my stress!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
well i kept my promise--spent 100 minutes exercising at the gym and burnt nearly 1000 calories--so far this thread is motivating me!
İ came back to school and feel really good about myself -my energy level is high and my mind feels relaxed.mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
