Im looking for a very specific number plate and wondered how I can find out who owns it and if I can buy it from them. Ive tried a few sites but cant find it, there could be hundreds of sites out there and I would need to search them all. Any ideas?

the cheapest site and the best IMO id the official dvla one
go to http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/

I'd imagine data protectionlaws would prevent them telling you who already owns a plate in use(unless you're the police etc. etc.) at best would have to wait till it comes back up for sale should they ever stop using it0

perhaps!
Personally i think personalised plates say a lot about their owners !
None of it good.
Also, they're an invitation to the disaffected youth of the country to scratch your car.
Waste the money on something else or why not give it to an organisation that can do good with it, UNICEF for example.Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0 -
Good guess Fairenoughclough, but alas the answer to that one is NO : ) its not L4LLY Im looking for
I think some reg numbers are tacky, ones that are too obvious and have tacky shortened versions of names in them, such as Kaz !!
This is a joint retirement / 60th present for my Dad, and it has his initials and his age in it.0 -
you do know he'll be a year older next year.....:)0

I chose to get a personalised plate as a wedding gift when I got married two years ago, not to look flash, but because I've always been a car nut and I wanted something I could take from car-to-car and still have in fifty years (presuming cars and registrations still exist, not to mention myself!).
It's not pretentious and simply has the first initial of my wife as the prefix, followed by a single number and then my initials.
Only problem is I've had to change cars twice in the past year and it's cost me a pretty penny (not to mention time) transferring the plates over!
Oh and I got mine off the DVLA website mentioned above for £250."I am not Geoff Vadar, I'm Darth Vadar"0 -
Guess I'd best not mention, my plate... VAN580Y, watch out for that metalic grey Omega estate, behind you, cruising the motorways, between car auctions!!
& Mrs V has B11DGN on her Mx5. Means nothing to everyone - but our surname is BUDGEN!
& she used to have DEB50V on her Jaguar Sovereign - her christian name is Debbi, so was appropriate for her AND the car!!
Agree the first plas to look for a plate is DVLA site.
If you can't find it there, but do see it for sale in another dealer - try an offer!! They quite often 'double up' the price to seel, compared to what the owner actually wants.
Ultimatly a DVLA auction will throw a few bargains sometimes - check what they made inn previous sales, on the site.
Then again, they're not the investment they once were!!

It's not free, but if you were to HPI check the number in question with a view to buying the vehicle, that's not illegal and it should return name and address of registered keeper.0
