Zero-hours contract - customs and practice?

Hi everybody,
Looking for a little advice with regard to my part-time weekend job.
For over 2 years I have worked at a bar at the weekends, at first just doing the odd shift to cover functions moving onto working a shift almost every weekend (sat & sun) for the last year except for the odd holiday and a couple of sick days (which they said I cudnt work) as the old staff left.
Anyway last week I was not given one of my usual shifts, which I obviously complained about.
I am currently on a zero hours contract which i no means I have no guarenteed hours but would I be able to make a complaint using "customs and practice" as I have had a shift both sat/sun for the last year but instead my normal shifts where given to newer staff who where only being used for function cover.
Thanks in advance
Dan

TBH I'm not sure, but quite possibly. The advice we've had is that if we start regularly offering our zero hours staff the same shifts, we should get them onto a regular contract. So we try to keep them irregular, IYSWIM!
