Here is an interesting link I picked off Fullermoney, showing how the energy used in various countries is generated.

'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher

I though initially that wind power for Spain must be wrong (at 10%), however in March 2010, wind power accounted for 20% of total demand in Spain.0 -
I wonder the fact that France generates 76.4% of its electricity using nuclear energy is the reason why my electricity costs twice as much per unit here in the UK as it does in France?0

The UKs reliant on gas? We're fooked, far too reliant on others to provide energy needs.0

Actually, if we just harvest the gas from parliament we'll be fine, now where's Emmett Brown when you need him.0

The UK's reliance on gas is why the UK wants Turkish accession to the EU. It needs new pipelines.0

No we dont need new pipelines, we need to move away from gas!
The high percentage of gas is a result of cheap and easy gas from the north sea. The north sea reserves have been in decline for around 11 years. We need to up our nuclear and renewables to replace the gas.
The last thing we want is to be held ransom by both a forgien gas supplier and the countries through which the pipe passes.0 -

I suspect that part of that is also how the UK is quite happy to see strategically important assets such as energy companies owned by foreign companies.
That and the last governments procrastination over a coherent energy policy.0 -
