Yep.......0 -
yes it can..providing it is a 'basic' account.
The two main BR-tolerant banks are Barclays and Co-op [CAshminder account].
The OR will ask if any money in the account is for normal living expenses, and if so, will declare no interest. This will be communicated with the bank at some point...but it may be best to contact the bank post-BR and inform them of your situation....this allows the relevant department [certainly with Co-op] to keep an eye out for the OR's 'no interest' declaration.
I had two Cashminder accounts opened before BR....created no probs whatsoever. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

Its fine to open a basic account pre BR just as alistairq says. Pre BR we opened a joint Co Op cashminder account and told them of our intention to go BR. This was set up really quickly, got the account number instantly and the cards came through within about 7 days.
On our BR forms under the section where you declare any bank accounts we just put a note to say it was our basic account to be used in BR and when we had a brief chat with the OR on court day, he asked us if we had an account we used for wages, DD's etc so got to mention it again too. It was never frozen at any stage.0
