Tesco rapped over Asda comparison

Tesco has been reprimanded over an ad that compared prices with its rival Asda
Tesco has been reprimanded for a national advertisement in the latest round of a price promotion battle with rival Asda.
In a national press advertisement, Tesco featured a selection of fresh food products displaying their in-store prices, and those of the same or equivalent products at Asda.
Text in a roundel stated: "Total Tesco Saving £4.91" with the claim: "One place you won't find your fresh food for the weekend? In the Asda Price Guarantee".
Asda complained that Tesco's assertion was misleading and argued that fresh products, including 13 of the 20 products shown in the Tesco advertisement, were included in its price guarantee.
In a response to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), Tesco said the mistake had been the result of "an internal communication error (the pricing details had been checked internally but Tesco's advertising team had mistakenly believed that the products were not covered by Asda's price guarantee)."
The retailer apologised for the error and said the advertisement would not run again. The supermarket giant said that action would be taken to ensure similar inaccuracies did not happen in future.
Upholding the complaint, the ASA ruled: "The ASA welcomed Tesco's acknowledgement of the error, their assurance that they would take action to ensure a similar error did not occur again and their confirmation that the ad would not run again.
"Nevertheless, we considered that the ad suggested that fresh products, including the products shown in the ad, were not included in Asda's price guarantee and we were concerned that Tesco's checking procedures had not correctly established whether that was the case. Because it was not the case that fresh products were not included in Asda's price guarantee, and because Tesco had not supplied evidence to substantiate the claim that they were not, we concluded that the ad was misleading."
In February, the advertising watchdog upheld complaints made by Tesco and Morrisons after Asda claimed in advertisements that they would refund customers the difference off their next shop if they found their groceries cheaper elsewhere, namely at Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons. The claimants said that the advertisements were misleading for suggesting that Asda was generally cheaper than themselves and Sainsbury's.
A spokesman for Tesco added: "This was a regrettable error and our ad, which appeared for one day only, has not been used again."0 -

wow-weeeee had my first trout experience today
Had very carefully done my 2 shops, one a dtd only cleaning & suncream shop so easy to justify as seperate. Then my usual bits plus dtd's to £20 as upgrades to usual shop (fabby looking pizza, magnums, roasties etc)
1st one scanned and packed, voucher presented, with receipt.
"Oh" she said "one of those"
yes I said
Then "well look at this you have a £20 voucher and you only spent £24. Well that's ridiculous, just ridiculous"
and she puts it to one side and asks me for the full amount. Um, I say, that voucher needs to come off please.
"Oh you want to use it on those couple of bits do you? Oh I thought it was for the next lot. But you only spent £24 and got £20 back"
this is where I start to wriggle inside but keep cool, and say, yes good isnt it?!
"No, its ridiculous" she says, calls the supervisor ver loudly points out the £20/£24 thing and supervisor rolls eyes and says "yes" purses lips and walks away.
2nd lot of shopping goes through.
I get out 2nd voucher.
Trout is even less happy now. Lips now so tightly pursed they are airtight and watertight. I'm starting to worry about her breathing :rotfl:
So she waves ot at the SA on next till "have you seen these?" "well make sure you sign right over the receipt numbers at the bottom so THEY can't use them again" SA next till serves her customer, then walks round and they both stand having a good old natter about how they need to sign over the numbers (yes we got it the first time....yawn...). I'm stood looking all casual, watching them have their conflab. lady behind me in queue (with bertty crocker and mccoys waiting to be scanned, voucher in hand) looks at me and rolls eyes :rotfl:;)
After several minutes of pouting and complaining about "them buying only stuff to get money back" I say "um sorry um but I'd like to get my magnums home for the freezer before they melt"
lady behind grins
trout begrudgingly signs it and puts it through, and I toddle off on my merry way.......
and breathe again as panic subsides when I get outside
You'd think it was her own money. She obviously cares so much about Tesco. Bless her! After working for a large Blue Chip company for 7 years and then finally seeing the light, and started working for myself, I can assure her that they will think no more of her, than the spotty guy on the next desk, smiling away and scanning the voucher, thinking what is on the tv tonight. Her pay will no doubt be the same (or similar) and she just makes life hard for herself. It won't do her blood pressure much good either.
So trout off :rotfl:Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -

I've only just seen this! I'm trying to get my head around it but I've been on for over 2 hours now and am not sure if I am doing this right!
I have added shopping to my basket, checked prices at Asda and Tesco to compare but am seeing double now! lol
some things I can't find on Asda to compare.
Was looking at the beef for Sat but only one I can see on Asda website is same price per kg so would I be better popping down to Asda tomorrow as they promise to be 10% cheaper? xDream of being mortgage free....
