End of Contract Meeting

Evening all,
I'm hoping that you can help, a bit of background to the situation. I currently have 2 jobs within 2 different schools, I went on to Maternity Leave in April 2010, but continued to work on my keeping in touch days at 1 of the schools till October 2010. In Feb this year I was invited for a coffee with the schools acting head who told me there was not a job for me after my mat leave ended.
I pointed out that she could not do that as I was on a contract, I spoke to acas and wrote them a letter detailing all of the information acas provided me with and a copy of my contract.
They went away and thought about it, I chased them a few times and finally when I had returned to the other job I was notified that I was going to be paid for this job.
I finally managed to speak to the head last week, who asked for a meeting with me on Thursday to discuss the ending of my contract.
The contract is permenant and to my knowledge can not be ended just like that, I have a feeling at the meeting that I will be offered a number of months pay to leave.
So what do I do in this situation? From what I have read on here I don;t think this has been handled correctly but have no idea where to go from here!!
Thanks in advance

I would personally wait and see what is said at this meeting, dont agree to anything at the meeting once you know what the decision they have decided then you can play it from there.0

how long have you worked for the school?:jI am an Employment Law Paralegal and an experienced Human Resources Manager and offer my guidance as simply that ... guidance :j0

On contract with the school 2 years, there has been no redundancy process, nothing at all in writing.0

I would advise going to the meeting and take someone with you. Ask to make notes and make sure you do not agree to anything or sign anything during the meeting.
After the meeting come back here and let us know the outcome and we will be offer more guidance.:jI am an Employment Law Paralegal and an experienced Human Resources Manager and offer my guidance as simply that ... guidance :j0 -
I haven't been offered the opportunity to take anyone with me, I will definately take notes while I am there, I'm just so upset about what to do, I feel I have given lots to the school and they are just casting me aside, with no reason.0

First, are you in a union? I assume not, as you have not mentioned it.
You might also want to post on https://www.tes.co.uk for advice, but from my knowledge, you cannot just be finished in the way you seem to have been. If your post is now redundant, or about to become redundant, there are certain procedures that have to be followed. If the post is not redundant, you have the right to return to your job after maternity leave.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.0 -
I am in unison, I rang the local office today who said they would send me out a case form, I pointed out the meeting was on Thursday, they said I could try a different number for advice but as it was 4.30 and they closed at 5 I probably wouldn't get anywhere!!! So well worth the subs I pay every month. Sorry I should have been clearer I am not a teacher I am a member of the office staff.
There has been no mention of redunancies!!
Thank you for all the good wishes!!0 -
tes has a section for staff other than teachers. For Unison, try the regional office for advice. If necessary, I believe that you can delay a meeting until you have union representation, as long as it is a reasonable time scale.
It might also be worth mentioning in passing that you have consulted your union, if you get the chance. My daughter works in a different job to you (not in a school), but when the employer was trying to pull a fast one, she said that she would have to contact her union for advice (it was a situation where she was owed money for a short shift - she's a carer.) Funnily enough, she was then paid for the shift that had been unpaid for three months. There have been no other problems since then, although it was a fairly regular occurence before then.0
