Tax on Redundancy Payment

Comments

  • I am in this position having recently taken redundancy in April from the NHS. HRMC owe me £13,000! I certainly wasnt a high earner.

I have submitted a P50 to reclaim the tax paid as I didn't plan to go straight back to work having worked for the NHS for 42 years I thought I would take a break.

Because I am in receipt of a small pension e.g. £20 per week which is taxable under PAYE rules I am unable to claim back this money until the end of the tax year so they will keep my money and I will earn no interest on it for 9+ months but of course they will! I am sure my plight is similar to others up and down the country. Outrageous!!!!!
