Some independant jewellers may sell for you on a comission based deal this may work out your best option as if the ring doesn't sell at the price you want then you can withdraw it ...I know you say you want to avoid the independants and also ebay...but thats a huge chunk of the market...especially the jeweller route...look at it from the buyers point of view and if you were buying the ring would you be happy to hand over a large amount of money for something that you know little of its history or origin?....I really wouldn't think you could achieve the best deal on an internet forum...but thats posibly based on personal preference...ive bought loads of second hand jewellery in the past...and regularly advise people to do the same...it is a very cost effective way of getting more for your money from a buying point of view!

No idea where you are based but there are lots of places around the country where there are antique markets etc and jewellery traders who sell via them .... you could possibly look into the option of an autction room ..but again the comission could be high and the ring not achieve the price you want...
Other options may be your local paper/trade it type route but again you need to look at it from the buyers view...would you buy a ring from a small ad or from a reputable jeweller?...a piece like that does deserve to be sold with consideration....
Whilst you are reluctant to approach independant jewellers in my mind it probably is the best way to go
If the ring was purchased in the states then its likely to be 14k if gold(sorry I cant see from the photo if its white gold or platinum) and not hallmarked to british standard ..occaisionaly this will put buyers off and whilst the ring is new and unused again a tag of used will be put on it simply because its already been purchased once.

Whichever way you do decide to sell it then the value of it will be backed up if you have the correct paperwork for it grading the diamomds etc.
I think it is a beautiful ring and one which is very commercial in style its just that you may need to realise that you wont necessarily get back what you paid for it...Im dying to ask how much you want for it and some more details but I know that the forum rules mean I cant...but then the speculative buyer in me comes out...but best of luck with you sale however you decide!

Your more than welcome to exact some lovely ££££££ for it ;)

Aww, but it's my birthday on Saturday, would make a lovely pressie :-)

LOL, I'm sorry I cannot offer any advice, but I'm like a magpie as far as diamonds go. I covet every one I see. Good luck selling it hun, and I would have it if I'd got the pennies! x x
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

Cash Convertors will buy if from you, but I think if you sell it on eBay you will get more money from it. Because you do not want to use eBay, the only other way to sell it is via an auction room, but they also take a cut of the final sale price.

I have no idea how good this site is, but I found it via a blog... http://www.idonowidont.com/help
it's called "I Do...Now I Don't" which made me laugh! Only in America, as they say...!

Ha ha... I had heard of it and just assumed it was UK... Oh well :D

The only other things i can think of is gumtree, preloved and all those kind of ones and again you are unlikely to get near full cost back - and i, personally, will not buy a ring from anywhere except a jewellers or pawnbrokers.

    Good luck :D

I have just had another thought that has just occurred to me that may or may not be an option...have you considered a trade in on the ring...many US companies offer an option ...I dont know what retailer in the states you used but Diamonds International and many other ones in the US offer lifetime trade in on pieces...I know you already have a larger ring but my understanding was that you could trade for anything within their stock so it could become an eternity ring!
I was given the option some years back when I purchased a bracelet from them that if I ever wanted to upgrade they would buy back the original piece... I never pursued the idea as it was not an option for me but this may be a possible option for you if you are in the position to upgrade and return to the States.

  • I'm not sure if you are still trying to sell your diamond. I used Andrew & Peter Fabrikant in NY. I had a great experience when I sold some diamond rings I had.
