Advice wanted about Halifax good will gesture payment

Hi
I have a mortgage with the Halifax and received a letter from them to say they would be crediting a sum of money over £1000 to my mortgage account as a "goodwill" gesture. I didn't really understand the letter. I think that they may have given wrong advice or mis-sold me the mortgage. I wondered if anyone else knows about this and what its all about? Would I be better seeking legal advice to see if I could claim more money back??

By all means go for it. Although if you don't know how you've been misadvised it could be hard work proving your case.Hi

If you lose, your legal bill will probably be a lot more than £1,000.

The goodwill payment was triggered after Halifax reached an agreement with the FSA. You were not mis-sold the mortgage as such - they just didn't completely comply with how they informed customers of changes to their SVR (moved from 2 to 3% above base rate)
As this is a negotiated settlement involving the FSA, its highly unlikely complaining would get you any further, IMO.
For what it's worth - the letter I received was clear as mud - it read like it'd been written by a GCSE work experience kid, so I can see why you're confused.
You should be able to get the money in the form of a cheque by calling them, if you wish.My PV system: South West England, 10x 250Wp Trina Solar panels, Fronius Inverter, South facing roof, 35° pitch with no shading.0
