Bought myself a new computer. It has norton antivirus software which was disabled. I have not clicked on it to activate it. Used the following
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
to remove the norton software. It appears to work (i think). I disabled the windows xp firewall. I then installed AVG, Zonealarm, Spybot, Adaware and spyblaster. Installation and updates went ahead smoothly. Done a virus scan etc with no problems as expected.
As a matter of interest i went to control panel-security centre. Looking at firewall section it says i have two firewalls active. Under antivirus section it also states i have two antivirus software running. How can this be? On the taskbar i have only zonealarm and avg showing. On my other pc the security centre states zonealarm and avg as expected.

Doesn't it name the firewalls and antivirus you have running in Security Centre?
(I assume you've tried rebooting?)Stompa0 -

the security centre does not name the product if there is more than one running. However after i had disabled the zonealarm then the security centre shows norton as the firewall. Strange because i had used the removal software above twice and yet norton exists!!! There is nothing in ad/remove program listing. Am now reinstalling norton and am going to try control panel-add/remove programs and remove norton that way
