Hi
I am after a bit of advice please.
My husband attended university, but in his second year decided it wasn't for him, he left in the middle of the year and so Student loans are asking for money back for the fees and some of the grant money that had bee effectively overpaid to him.
He did set up an agreement to pay some each month but we couldn't afford to keep up the payments and it has now been passed to a dca....smith lawson and co (or something like that) Do they have any more power because they are acting for student loans, than if they were acting for a catalogue/credit card company.
The thing is he hasn't got a penny income now not even JSA so has NO money to offer them....
he doesn't know what to do!
I have put this in debt forum and student forum for quick replies...thx xx

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.

Smith Lawson & Co don't have any more power than the Student Loans Company.
They ARE the student loans company.
Just a different office/department, or even just a different desk in the normal one where they print letters out using a different headed paper.
If you look at the bottom of their letters, you will see that they are a "trading style" of the student loans company.
The initials are a big give-away.
Smith, Lawson & Co = SLC
Student Loans Company = SLC
That is not accidental, and is obviously someone in senior managements idea of a joke.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Well, he needs to write to the SLC showing that he cannot afford to make payments at the moment.
Can he make even token payments of £1 per month?

Unfortunately though, the SLC have opted to up their pursuit of legal action of late. You really need to contact them with evidence that you are unable to pay.0
