lucky Friday!

Sitting on Friday at 11-30pm entering a few more comps before bed when my fire alarm starts going off as my OH runs down the stairs shouting 'open the door, the tv is on fire!'

My OH was watching tv in the bedroom when the tv made a funny noise before smoke started pouring out of it

We are so lucky he was in the room with the tv at the time because it would have been terrifing if he'd left it on while he came down to brush his teeth. There was heaps of smoke despite it being put outside within minutes of happening.

It was one of the 'old' style tv's, not a flat screen one, not too sure what happened to it :( just glad that there was no real damage done :j
wouldn't it be nice if i won : car/cash/family holiday :)

:j I am a winner! :j

Thank You to all who post and who make this a great site!

I bought a brand new 42" flat screen tv last year, I was at work one day and my husband phoned to tell me our tv had caught fire while he was watching it, we'd only had it three months, the smell was horrible and stunk the house out for days after, lucky enough we still had the receipt and were able to take it back and get a new one, but I was scared to go out of the room and leave it on for ages after.

OMG what a fright! Glad all's okay. What if you'd fallen asleep while watching it. You don't expect these things, do you. Is it under say 5 or 10 years old? I'd be tempted to write to the manufacturer. I suppose anything electrical has some sort of risk, but jeez...

Hope you win a nice new one soon! :D Like you say though, lucky lucky lucky. That's all you can think about in times like these.

Think carefully before trying to claim on insurance, especially if it is an old one! Just that if you have no claims on it then you might lose more than you would gain, especially if you have a hefty excess!

Good luck winning a new one - we just gave up on that idea and bought a new TV for the lounge, expecting to win one any day now, that's the way it normally goes!!
