Am I truly bonkers?

Now that Oakley has turned 2, he's suddenly turned into a proper grown up dog, no more loopy ASBO behaviour, which is lovely. He spends most of his time laid at my feet, doesnt terrorise the cat very much any more and is just a fab dog. So am I content with that...? no... I'm planning on getting him a young friend. So I'm looking at puppies and going to see a litter in the next week or two. Am I barking or not??

YES!!
Noonly joking I'm just jealous as I would like a companion for my dog who is also 2 and also now a pleasure to own having got over the asbo behaviour!! but for lots of reasons in my situation it's not possible.
Why not, if you know what you are getting yourself into, work, behaviour and cost wise, you will get the pleasure of owning & training two dogs and Oakley will get himself a buddy!
What breed are you hoping to get?
ps. obviously I have never owned two dogs at the same time so maybe people who have can give better advice!!"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"

I have a Border Terrier, Ellie 10 years, other half has a Rodensian Ridgeback, Nala 12 years. Nala wants to play with Ellie. She loves other dogs. Ellies hides under my legs. She loves other people. They sleep together in their cage at night. Nala was 9 and Ellie 7 when they moved in with each other so a wee bit older. Nala has had puppies come round to play and she is in her element. Ellie hides. She is however very welcoming to the puppies owners!!!
What I am trying to say is, it depends on your dog. Nala is an old lady now and still runs around like a puppy and is very tollerant of the wee youngsters who come round and have no manners. Ellie isn't she willl walk with them, sleep with them and be happy in their company as long as they ignore her. She would be lost without her:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
I'm looking at an Italian Spinone. They (allegedly) are calm, but intelligent and Oakley loves to play with other dogs, so hopefully they will get on well and play together. I've had 2 dogs several times before, twice have been Danes and Border Collies - that was somewhat manic, but they did have fun, and I think Oakley is a bit of a 'dog's dog' if you know what I mean!
So... back to housetraining, obedience training, chewing, etc etc etc. Gotta love those pooches!:rotfl:0 -
Oh
there was one of those at the puppy training classes we went to. I'd never heard of them before, that particular one was calm and really sweet.

Oh I saw one of those dogs in the park on Saturday. Wondered what breed it was!! Looked such a calm dog, off the lead and not bothering anyone, really well behaved!!
Think I'm bonkers also...I'm considering getting a third dog, a second westie!!! :rotfl:0 -

Ha ha ha with the Westie :-D We seriously considered one because of the charactor (plus the cuteness) but i think it would be that little bit too much with my rottie and staffy X. Rottie is very calm, staffy X is mental. I think Westies are on a par just more vocal.0 -

We have a Ridgeback X and she's the same - she's 5 and although she's 'grown-up' in some ways she still has the good playful puppy behaviour (thankfully none of the chewing and destructive behaviour)
