It really is slow to see the benefits when you're starting out. I have an offset mortgage, and the amount of interest I've saved because of it just isn't high enough!!! I want it to be more!!!!
We just have to have faith that the numbers will start snowballing after a couple of yearsBorrowed £150,000 in an offset tracker mortgage in May 2007 - MFD May 2041 (67)

Gosh I haven't posted here for ages!
We are doing really well and have got our balance down to £138,500 (though about £15,000 of that is savings/buffer in case of emergency).
The big change is the DH is now very much on board, and we have tackled that huuuuge entertainment budget. We're going out just as much as before, but are now using vouchers etc. We have a couple of big exciting holidays that we're saving for, so that has helped a lot in making him excited about my stingey ways! We're also tentatively thinking about trying for a baby, so that has concentrated the mind somewhat too . We want to have everything that we plan for the house (big things anyway) all paid for this year.0 -
I did our monthly grocery shop through mysupermarket yesterday and managed to save about £30!
Still been good at making lunches etc.
Need to renew the broadband soon and see that O2 are doing a good deal for retentions, so hopefully that will go down a bit.
All in all being pretty mse lately!0 -
Again a long time since I've posted!
I've had the mortgage statement again for the year.
Our current balance is £136,738.
This year we paid £5941.46 in interest. According to my spreadsheet, without overpayments we would have paid £7281.96 - a saving of £1340.50! A much bigger saving than last year!
We've currently got around £16,000 in the overpayment fund, but until our recent overseas trip that was above £20,000.
So, all going very well although we are expecting our first child next year, so I imagine we will be slowing down...0
