Big brother spying on my credit?!

Hi folks,
Well this is quite freaky. The post just came and I looked at the names to see what was for who and noticed on both letters for me there was a small number towards the top-right hand corner of the envelope window.
I guessed it was from the same sender but when I opened up the letters, one was trying to tempt me in to applying for a loan from Peoples Loans Ltd and the other was with regards to me paying a utility bill.
Well I doubt very much it's conincidence, the numbers are exactly the same, 5 digits long. What is that number all about? I've never noticed it before.
What's going on?!
Have any of you guys had that on your mail today??
*Suspicious*

I noticed this on the majority of my post quite a while ago - I have a feeling that it was something to do with which sorting office/local post office depot it went through. I think.... :-)0

But they would have to know this before the letter was printed obviously? So this would mean there is a database of id numbers <-> people that's shared between creditors and utility companies etc?0

They're coming to get you:DBarclaycard 3800

What WhatKatyDid said is right, it's a different version of the postcode used in bulk mailings, the number relates to the Area, not the person. You'll see it quiet a bit, from Maplin Catalogues to Loan Offers, nothing to worry about - I hope
Just checked and our TV License (in the oh mighty ones name) and some junk I just got for a loan, and some junk from Maplin all have the same code on.BSC Member 44 - not bankrupt yet, but getting there...0 -
All I got in the post today was a christmas catalogue for Iwantoneofthose.com... still waiting for them to deliver the stuff I ordered though! grrr!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

They are just mail sort codes used by the majority of bulk mailers to designate areas before final posting.
They probably have the same on your "TV tax" reminder as well…… It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
Its for them to get cheaper postage. The companies bundle and sort the post, which saves the post office doing it.
Don't worry, its nothing to worry about0 -
Hehe well people have been saying they're coming to get me for years. Every night I go to bed with my broadsword
Well I hope it's nothing more sinister than efficient posting, but it does beg the question as to why I've never noticed it before?!
So what other goodies did Postman Pat bring y'all today?? I love receiving mail now!!
