Day out

Anyone any ideas where is good for a day out with the children?

Children are 5, 4 and 1. They have Been to the several open farms, ulster museum, fish world in potaferry and a few other places.

Was thinking of ulster folk and transport museum but don't know if it would be suitable for my children ages??

Thank you

It is not until the Bank Holiday Weekend at the start of May, but I think one of the best days out to be had, is the Steam Fair at Shanes Castle - I am not into vintage or steam, but there is sooo much going on at that event - we take a craft stall every year and still thoroughly enjoy the event, from people in full WW2 regalia to duck herding!

Our children loved Castle Espie when they were small, if you live close by membership works out at good value, Folk and Transport Museum is good too - lots of walking though, Delamont in Killyleagh was also popular, though don't know if you would spend a whole day there
DJWW - cos we won't let it!

they will love the folk and transport museum - one side of the road the two elder ones can jump on and off the trains and the other side wander around the houses etc - they may not be overly interested in all the history but will enjoy the freedom to explore something different.
I am sure you have done the Zoo??
Another great day is Lisburn pool with its lazy river and water slides.
On a good day a large box of buckets and spades and a day at the beach is hard to beat!

Have you tried Carnfunnock? Either take a picnic or they have a cafe (bit limited in choices)
    see here http://www.carnfunnock.com/

W5 in Belfast is brill but not that cheap. We've been to the transport museum but not the folk side since we had our kids but its pretty good and there is plenty of space for running about. Castle Espie is good as is the lagan valley leisure plex swimming pool in lisburn. There is a steam train in downpatrick that we liked. Can't think of anything specific to do there but we always enjoy going up to the north coast.

And the armagh planetarium. We went recently and there are 2 shows suitable for littlies. One of them is free which also gets you free entry into the exhibits so pretty good value!

They're pretty young. The sands duns around the Portrush area would entertain them. Take a pick-nic or a gas stove...............if that doesn't please them, tell them Nanny McPhee will sort them out:rotfl:

......or as I was told, the black moria will come and get you:(....scared the cr#p out of me
  • The Cultra folk museum is fab for slightly older kids. Your kids are young and there is way too much walking to keep them amused. Take them to a climbing frame anywhere nad they will have fun. Carnfunnock is good but you will be paying a few pounds for this ride and a few more for another. Peoples park in Ballymena is free, parking free, toilets on site and you can also feed the ducks/swans. There is enough there to keep younger kids amused. You should have a look in a local tourist information for things that are on. I am sure there are web sites with local events near to you.
