You would need to be assessed for an underlying entitlement to IB JSA. If you need more information you would be best to post on the Benefits board.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Hi,
If your only income is cont based JSA then you would be entitled to the same mortgage payment as if you were receiving Income based JSA(after 13 weeks). You would be given 10p of income support that would bring about your entitlement and the other benefits of IS such as free prescriptions, no court fees etc.

That is not correct - the IS entitlement would apply to those on IB, not JSA. The IB JSA entitlement would be in the form of eligible housing costs.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks guys not for me but someone im trying to help, did eventually find the benefit board, didnt see it previously.
DD are there regs for that, because until today id drawn a pretty big blank.0 -

Entitlement to benefit depends on housing costs60A client may not be entitled to any income support or income-based JSA unless housing costs are included in her/his applicable amount. This occurs when a client has income equal to, or greater than her/his applicable amount, because housing costs cannot be included in this amount during the waiting period. If the fact that 100 per cent costs are not immediately payable is the only reason the client would not get benefit, the client should still make the claim straightaway but a client can sometimes be treated as if s/he were on benefit before s/he claims). If there is a waiting period, s/he will not receive any benefit until the waiting period expires. The DWP should notify her/him of the date when s/he will become entitled, when s/he will need to make a further claim. A client may become entitled when 50 per cent housing costs are payable.61Once benefit is payable, a client who is only entitled to income support or income-based JSA because of housing costs will only get this element (usually paid direct to the lender if it is loan interest). However, s/he will be entitled to other help which is automatic for people on income support or income-based JSA, for example, free prescriptions, and will receive 10p of income-based JSA or income support directly to preserve this entitlement.

Yes, all benefits come under social security law. Your friend should have been asked about housing costs when s/he applied for benefit.
IS / IBJSA = maximum help with housing costs. (maximum help depends upon when mort was taken out and what the money was used for)

DD they did i went with them and i asked the question but the advisor was not great, said more forms would come soon ie 2 weeks before the 13 weeks kicked in, couldnt get through to the help line and i rang shelter, who went off for 10 minutes to think about it and said something about costs etc but were very unclear. But was going to get someone back to them in 48 hours.
im trying to avoid them ending up on here not mse but this dreaded part of the forum boards.
But im concerned this sort of infor is not been passed on to those claiming benefits . oR MORE importantly getting answers that are understood.
normal mortage i think for buying 95% in property , fairly long term no real remortaging of the original term or very little from what i can gather.
ive got another question for someone else re the increased age group re the shared room rate brought out this month from 25 to 35 so massive implications on the single person aged under 35 in private renting. will post that on the benefits board as well - as that infor is highly confusing.0 -
Hi Hols,
Fact is, if JSA is your friends ONLY income then s/he will get full eligible housing costs( and free prescriptions etc). This has many variables such as when borowed, what money was used for etc. Also this 'wonderful' government has reduced the interest rate paid form 6% to 3%. so would depend on actual mortgage rate against this reference figure as to how much would be paid.
Your friend needs to keep a close eye on what happens after 13 weeks and also needs to write to his mort co explaining that can't (pressumably) offer any monies for 13 weeks, but DWP payments will start after that.

thanks that was the point of the visit they wanted to know how much they would get and would it be less than the current expected amount and for them to speak to there mort company to keep them in the loop,
but i have to say my god when you ring the DWP how long winded is it, you seem to go round in circles.
And all the advice numbers are literally unobtainable , shelter took a while as well as had to keep ringing back.0 -
Your friend would need to fill in an 'MI 12' form, which is a request to the mortgage provider to provide information to the DWP regarding the secured lending.
