I have logged onto credit expert in the past so would have to join for £14.99 a month to look at my credit score, don't want to do that it's a lot of money

Are there anyother sites where you can go and check your credit score without the fee thanks Jo

OK don't want to appear rude but why do you want to see your "credit score" from one of the credit reference agencies.

This "credit score" is pretty much useless. All lenders have their own internal scoring systems which take into account a multitude of factors of which the valueless credit reference agency score may or may not be one.

In view of your user name I wonder if you already have a significant debt already which in itself will prevent you from gaining any more credit. You might want to reconsider why you are in debt and how you can reduce your outgoings to reduce your debt rather than continually chasing more debt possibilities.

See section 158 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

Credit reference agencies are only allowed to charge £2 for a Plain English copy of your file.

You can also see your file at https://www.experian.co.uk and https://www.callcredit.co.uk although if they offer a free trail or not I couldn't say. People get a misleading impression that the credit file each of the three UK credit reference agencies hold is the same. It isn't. So if you are looking to see if you have been defaulted or if any debt appears which you were not previously aware of then you do need to check all three.

The credit score thing, as CB says, is a red herring. Experian and the others make it up as they go along and then have something to charge you for because the law says the maximum they can charge you to see your file is £2 and that doesn't generate much revenue! They say it's because they know how lenders score applicants and they just know the lender will look at you the same way. That's not possibly true though because each lender has ther own evaluation process and criteria. Each CRA's files on you will be different too. This is because it is up to each company you deal with to inform whichever CRA's they choose to about your behaviour. They don't have to tell any of them, or they might tell 1, 2 or all 3.

So anyway... You should get a copy of your "statutory report" or "statutory file" from Experian and see your file at Equifax and Call Credit too if you want a proper picture of who's got what on you. If you can't get a free trial at the latter two then obviously get a £2 file there too. And forget about the score thing, it's pointless (except in terms of generating revenue for them).
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • No you didn't appear rude at all, i don't want anymore debts i have enough but was just wanting to see my report, however not going to pay to see it as my money is definately better spent clearing debts

    Thanks for all the advice
