  • Yes the white bits are fat, probably vegetable suet though not lard so it's suitable for vegetarians. It helps to create the yummy stickyness for the mincemeat!

    I made some today and they are just as yummy as ever, I better make some more as only a dozen went in the freezer after hubby spotted them I use a little orange juice to bind together a little easier.

    I made these a few years ago and they were fab, work colleagues asking for them this year again & I cannot get Trex anywhere, can I use lard instead of Trex? Are they not the same thing?

    No, its a vegetable fat (introduced in the 30's as dairy free alternative to butter). Sorry, no idea what to substitute.

    I get my trex on my Tesco online deliveries. Also got it in the co-op before.
    I have made approx 200 of these this year, some are in the freezer, but they have ll turned out well.
    Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

    I've found Trex in all the big supermarkets.

    If you want to save a bit of money the free Trex calendar has some money off coupons too.

    I think I am going to have a bash with half lard half butter, our "Big" supermarket is Mr T & I cannot get it online or instore, have also been to Mr A & Mr M :( I did get cookeen but not sure about that now, I will let you all know how I get on as they were lush before when made with trex :(
