What exactly does the ignore button do?

Don't flame me, I know what "to ignore" means, but in terms of this forum what happens?
There is one particular tube that I've no wish to hear from (no names!).
If I press ignore does it mean I don't get pms; that they can't post on my thread or what?
I figure ignore is much better than entering into playground argy-bargy at my age!).
Thanks for the info, (and don't extract the urine!)

if you have someone on your ignore list, you dont see any of their posts.....unless someone else quotes the post0

Obvious disadvantage in "ignoring" a poster is that you can't reply to any misleading, untruthful, inaccurate or even malicious post they make unless another poster quotes it in their reply. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Instead of their posts in threads, you see something like this.
You can click to view the post if you want to.
If someone on your ignore list PM's you, then the PM doesn't arrive in your inbox. You never see it or know about it. From the perspective of the person sending the PM, it would appear to send OK. I agree with this, but the person I have in mind just spouts illiterate drivel - which I wouldn't dignify with a response.
Thanks for the replies.

Whatever drivel I might post, it is at least literate.0
