'Light' sugar in Breadmaker

Hi ladies,
Just got back from shopping and was getting my BM ingredients ready form the morning only to find I have no real sugar, only the Silver Spoon 'Light' sugar that OH uses in his coffee, has anyone used this in their bread recipe?

I'm guessing it won't won't work because it won't react with the yeast properly?

I haven't tried it myself but I know a few posters have reported they have put less sugar in there BM's with no adverse effects so the half sugar may be ok.

Could you do a small loaf and see what happens.

if you've any honey or syrup you can use that instead

but as tigetfeet says, a lot of people cut down the sugar in BM recipes anyway, so as it has a bit of sugar in it, it might well be just fine

I'd certainly give it a try if you've nothing else in :)

Well, that 'light' sugar I believe is half sugar and half sweetner, so logically it should work. Probably wouldn't work with pure sweetner though.

Oh eck I usually replace all the sugar/honey with artificial sweetener - can't say I noticed any difference or maybe I just have very low expectations. :rotfl:
Just made rolls and they all rose nicely.

you don't really need any sugar at all to make bread, it's just that breadmakers can be a bit fussy about proportions of ingredients, I guess because they're working to a strict timeline, hand made bread is much more flexible & forgiving :)
