how to clean GHDs?

hi
do you have any idea what I can clean my GHDs with please? they've obtained a funny whiff in the last couple of days like someones been cooking with them :eek: ... in fact, does anyone know if that's a sign they're gonna pack up?? just not come across that before ... unless of course Mr Windy has been cooking with them!!

My friend uses the mat she got to clean hers, I found it on this site http://www.hairtec.com/products_details.asp?id=3646 you may be able to find it elsewhere cheaperOne day I might be more organised...........
